Position Summary:
The Temporary Grounds Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining the beauty and functionality of campus grounds. This short-term position supports seasonal or project-based grounds needs, including landscape upkeep, snow and ice removal, and athletic field maintenance. Working collaboratively with the Facilities team, the role includes oversight of student workers and hands-on involvement in outdoor projects across campus.
Key Responsibilities:
• Grounds and Landscape Maintenance: Maintain campus lawns, trees, shrubs, flowerbeds, and planting areas to high visual and safety standards through routine care and seasonal upkeep.
• Athletic Field and Irrigation Support: Assist in the upkeep of athletic fields and tennis courts, including synthetic turf care, irrigation systems, and field preparation based on usage and NCAA guidelines.
• Equipment Operation and Safety: Operate, maintain, and monitor groundskeeping equipment and tools, ensuring safe usage practices and timely reporting of repair needs.
• Snow and Weather Response: Respond to inclement weather by supporting snow and ice removal from roads, sidewalks, and entryways, both during and outside of regular hours.
• Student Worker Oversight and Collaboration: Support the hiring, scheduling, training, and task coordination of student workers in collaboration with the Facilities team, fostering safe and productive work practices.
• Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of two years of groundskeeping or related experience
• Ability to perform physical tasks related to landscaping and grounds maintenance
• Valid driver’s license
• Maintain a growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reflect His character in all interactions, and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, Doctrinal Statement and Declaration of Christian Community
Nice To Have:
• Experience with irrigation system installation or troubleshooting
• Ability to obtain a pesticide applicator license within one year
• Experience working with synthetic turf or athletic field maintenance
Key Skills:
• Independent & Teamwork: Capable of working both independently and collaboratively, with minimal supervision.
• Organizational Skills: Strong time management and problem-solving abilities; able to prioritize and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
• Technical Proficiency: Moderate computer skills, including Microsoft Office and related software.
• Written & Verbal Communication: Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility: Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends and on-call as needed.
• Driver’s License: Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
• Background Check: Must pass initial and ongoing background checks as a condition of employment.
